From Vision to Reality: The Story Behind Etobicoke's New Civic Centre

On April 10, 2024, the City of Toronto held a ground-breaking ceremony for the new Etobicoke Civic Centre (ECC) at 3755 Bloor Street West. As a new state-of-the-art civic hub, the new ECC will feature more than 508,000 square feet of accessible public-facing space including municipal office towers, a multi-purpose council chamber, a child care centre, a new Toronto Public Library branch, a public health clinic for dental services and breastfeeding, a fully equipped recreation centre, ceremonial rooms, public meeting rooms, an art gallery and retail spaces, all leading out to an open civic square with a Sacred Fire Vessel and two-level parking.

    CreateTO works with Infrastructure Institute at the School of Cities, University of Toronto to find new and innovative solutions on co-locating emergency service facilities in mixed-use buildings and the use of public sector real estate. We’re happy to share that a panel exhibit that highlights Toronto as a leader in the implementation of mixed-use buildings is currently on display at Metro Hall by the Infrastructure Institute, School of Cities.

    For the sixth year in a row, CreateTO provided the case for the Ted Rogers Real Estate Association Expand Your Empire Case Competition that took place on Saturday, January 27, 2024. CreateTO's Carlo Bonanni, Senior Vice President, Planning and Design and Melita Varga, Director, Client & Stakeholder Enablement were on the judging panel and this year, the case went beyond having the teams produce a residential and mixed-use product offering and asked for a product that would meet the needs of post-secondary school students, and new graduates with entry level income.
